Field of Dreams is a film based on a piece of history that depicts the importance of baseball in America. Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) hears the voices of baseball's all-time greatest players in his cornfield on a farm in Iowa in the 1980s. The voices keep on saying, If you build it, they will come. He interprets this message as an order to build a baseball field on his farm. Confused with the message, Kinsella seeks out a reserved man, Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), who will help him make his dream come true. By constructing this field, everyone thinks that Kinsella is crazy, but, a strong-willed man, he ignores the people's comments and continues to build what will become a playing field for many of the Chicago Black Sox players who were banned from baseball for throwing the 1919 World Series. Not only does the "famous eight" show up, but Kinsella's father, who was a minor league ball player, also returns from the past. This enables the two men to tie a bond through a game of catch on his field. Raoul Walsh takes the viewers on an incredible journey and makes baseball the common ground for loving friendships and replenishing broken ties between fathers and sons and players and fans in Field of Dreams.
