Say Rasmussen and Tilton: "In a clear attempt to follow the mid-century vogue of such American sculptors as Randolph Rogers and Erastus Dow Palmer to provide Christian America with suitable biblical figures and religious themes, Joseph Mozier carved in marble an image of a young Pocahontas in deliberation" (note the crucifix).
